A problem has been identified with
keyboard entry measurements (Distance, Volume, Concentration) in WinTec
Version 4.04.02 or later. The entry dialog did not allow values to be entered.
WinTec now allows users to enter
burette volume directly - WinTec calculates the volume added.
*** Important Notice to Users of Version 4.04.17
or later ****
A problem has been identified with
Version WinTec 4.04.17 to 4.04.20. If you are running this version and
using Windows XP, Datalogging experiments will abort after 5 minutes, you
will get an error message and the experiment will stop recording. Please
update to the latest version.
Folders for Windows XP Users
Previous versions of WinTec have caused problems with Windows XP for non-administrator users. This is because WinTec tries to save files to C:\Program Files\Tainlab. On Windows XP, this folder is write protected unless the user is an administrator, or unless an administrator has changed the folder security settings to allow students to write to the folder.
WinTec has now been modified so the
users who do not have write permission to the C:\Program Files\Tainlab
folder will be able to save experiment files and results files to the Shared
Documents folder.
The Save Experiment and Save Results
file dialogues will default to the shared area.
If a non-administrator user opens a standard experiment and then modifies settings, then when the experiment is saved the experiment title and file name will be automatically be modified to include your user name in brackets. This is done to prevent multiple entries in the Quick Start menu.
For example, if user ‘smith’ loads the experiment Huddling Animals, then modifies the settings and saves the experiment file, WinTec will automatically change the experiment title to Huddling Animals (smith) and the experiment file name to Huddling Animals (smith).exp.
The experiment file default path will be: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Tainlabs\shared settings.
The default path for results files will be: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Tainlabs\shared results.
The Quick Start menu now stores information about the folder where the experiment is saved, so any experiments saved by students will still be available in the Quick Start menu.
The Results Finder will also keep track of the folder information where you save each results file.
Quick Start Menu enhancements
The Quick Start menu has now been modified so that it can keep track of experiments that are saved in any folder on any local fixed disk on your PC. You are no longer restricted to
If you wish to see the name of the folder where a particular experiment is located, Click options, Show File Path and options, Show More Info. Now when you select an experiment, the full file path will be displayed at the right hand side of the screen.
Results Finder enhancements. The Results Finder can now cater for results files saved to any local fixed disk on your computer. The complete file path of the results file is saved in the Results Finder database.
Fast Scanner Triggering. The TecMaster and Fielder will now trigger on the next channel above the channels being scanned. The other interfaces (TecFour, TecTwin) will trigger on any channel not being scanned. The Trigger channel input is now displayed on the connections screen.
New Mechanics experiment – Acceleration of an object (Single Gate with 2 bars)
A new experiment is now available that can be used to measure the velocity and acceleration of a cart as it passes through a light gate. It uses a single light gate with 2 bars (with the same with) attached to the top of the cart. The velocity is determined at each bar and is then used to calculate the acceleration of the cart.
Help Files updated. The Help file has additional information on Exports and saving and loading results files. Some of the Help buttons in WinTec were also giving an error.
The Speed of Sound experiment has been modified. Users often find that if one of the pulses is missed (ie. the sound level is not high enough) the program would sit waiting for an input. The progress of the experiment is displayed as each signal is detected. There is now a cancel reading button on the screen so you can start again if the microphones fail to detect the sound.
Version 4.04.10 30 August 2004
WinTec now allows 2 Power measurements using the 3 lead version of the Tain Power Monitor. There is a new experiment included with WinTec called Power IN and Power OUT. It is designed to measure charging and power output of solar panels.
The text results for the experiment series of light gates were displayed incorrectly.
